Part 01 - Basic Words to Express Assistance and Support

1. Help

  • Definition: To provide what is necessary for someone to achieve or do something.

  • Example:
    A Muslim should offer help to others in times of need, as the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, "Whoever relieves a believer’s distress, Allah will relieve him of one of his distresses on the Day of Judgment." (Sahih Muslim)

    Synonyms:

    • Urdu: مدد (Madad)

      • Example (Urdu): "حضرت محمد صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: 'جو کسی مسلمان کا غم دور کرے گا، اللہ قیامت کے دن اس کے غم کو دور کرے گا۔'"
        (Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) ne farmaya: "Jo kisi musalman ka gham door karega, Allah Qiyamat ke din uske gham ko door karega.")
      • Meaning: A Muslim should help others in their distress, and in return, Allah will help them in the Hereafter.
    • Arabic: مساعدة (Musa'ada)

      • Example (Arabic): "قال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم: 'من يخفف عن مؤمن، يخفف الله عنه في يوم القيامة.'"
        (Qala al-nabi (PBUH): 'Man yukhaffif 'an mu'min, yukhaffif Allah 'anhu fi yawm al-qiyama.')
      • Meaning: A Muslim should offer help, as Allah will lighten their burdens on the Day of Judgment.

2. Aid

  • Definition: Assistance given to help someone or something, often in times of need.

  • Example:
    The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, "The best of people are those who are most beneficial to others." (Daraqutni)

    Synonyms:

    • Urdu: امداد (Imdaad)

      • Example (Urdu): "جو شخص دوسروں کی مدد کرتا ہے، اللہ اس کی مدد کرتا ہے، جیسا کہ حضرت محمد صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: 'سب سے بہترین لوگ وہ ہیں جو دوسروں کو فائدہ پہنچاتے ہیں۔'"
        (Jo shakhs doosron ki madad karta hai, Allah uski madad karta hai, jaisay ke Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) ne farmaya: 'Sab se behtareen log woh hain jo doosron ko faida pohanchate hain.')
      • Meaning: A Muslim should offer aid to others, as it brings Allah’s blessings.
    • Arabic: إعانة (I'ana)

      • Example (Arabic): "قال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم: 'أفضل الناس أنفعهم للناس.'"
        (Qala al-nabi (PBUH): 'Afdal al-nas anfa'uhum lil-nas.')
      • Meaning: The best of people are those who aid others.

3. Support

  • Definition: To bear the weight of or assist someone, often emotionally or physically.

  • Example:
    A Muslim should support others, as the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, "He who helps his brother in need, Allah will help him in his time of need." (Sahih Bukhari)

    Synonyms:

    • Urdu: حمایت (Himayat)

      • Example (Urdu): "حضرت محمد صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: 'جو اپنے بھائی کی مدد کرتا ہے، اللہ قیامت کے دن اس کی مدد کرے گا۔'"
        (Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) ne farmaya: "Jo apne bhai ki madad karta hai, Allah Qiyamat ke din uski madad karega.")
      • Meaning: A Muslim should support others, and in return, Allah will support them on the Day of Judgment.
    • Arabic: دعم (Da'am)

      • Example (Arabic): "قال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم: 'من يساند أخاه في حاجة، يسانده الله في يوم حاجته.'"
        (Qala al-nabi (PBUH): 'Man yusanid akhahu fi hajah, yusaniduhu Allah fi yawm hajatih.')
      • Meaning: A Muslim should support their brother or sister, as Allah will support them in their time of need.

4. Assistance

  • Definition: The action of helping someone by providing support or resources.

  • Example:
    The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, "Whoever assists a believer in a time of difficulty, Allah will assist them in this world and the Hereafter." (Sahih Muslim)

    Synonyms:

    • Urdu: مدد (Madad)

      • Example (Urdu): "حضرت محمد صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: 'جو کسی مسلمان کی مدد کرتا ہے، اللہ اس کی مدد کرتا ہے۔'"
        (Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) ne farmaya: "Jo kisi musalman ki madad karta hai, Allah uski madad karta hai.")
      • Meaning: A Muslim should assist others, and Allah will assist them in return.
    • Arabic: مساعدة (Musa'ada)

      • Example (Arabic): "قال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم: 'من يساعد مسلمًا في وقت حاجته، يساعده الله في الدنيا والآخرة.'"
        (Qala al-nabi (PBUH): 'Man yusa'id muslima fi waqt hajati, yusa'iduhu Allah fi al-dunya wa al-akhira.')
      • Meaning: A Muslim should assist others, and Allah will assist them in both this world and the Hereafter.

5. Encourage

  • Definition: To give someone confidence or support to do something.

  • Example:
    A Muslim should encourage others in doing good, as the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, "Whoever encourages someone to do good, it is as if they have done it themselves." (Sahih Muslim)

    Synonyms:

    • Urdu: حوصلہ افزائی (Hosla Afzai)

      • Example (Urdu): "حضرت محمد صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: 'جو کسی کو اچھا کرنے کی حوصلہ افزائی کرتا ہے، گویا اس نے خود وہ کام کیا۔'"
        (Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) ne farmaya: "Jo kisi ko achha karne ki hosla afzai karta hai, goya us ne khud woh kaam kiya.")
      • Meaning: A Muslim should encourage others to do good deeds, as they will share in the reward.
    • Arabic: تشجيع (Tashji')

      • Example (Arabic): "قال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم: 'من شجع أحدًا على الخير، فكأنما فعله.'"
        (Qala al-nabi (PBUH): 'Man shajja'a ahadan 'ala al-khayr, faka'annah fa'alah.')
      • Meaning: A Muslim should encourage others in doing good, and they will be rewarded as if they did it themselves.

6. Guide

  • Definition: To lead or direct someone, often providing information or advice along the way.

  • Example:
    A Muslim should guide others towards righteousness, as Allah says in the Quran, "And cooperate in righteousness and piety." (Quran 5:2)

    Synonyms:

    • Urdu: رہنمائی (Rehnumai)

      • Example (Urdu): "اللہ تعالیٰ نے فرمایا: 'اچھائی اور تقویٰ میں آپس میں تعاون کرو۔'"
        (Allah Ta'ala ne farmaya: 'Achai aur taqwa mein aapas mein ta'awun karo.')
      • Meaning: A Muslim should guide others towards good actions and piety.
    • Arabic: إرشاد (Irshad)

      • Example (Arabic): "قال الله تعالى: 'وتعاونوا على البر والتقوى.'"
        (Qala Allah Ta'ala: 'Wa ta'awanu 'ala al-birr wa al-taqwa.')
      • Meaning: A Muslim should guide others to righteousness, as Allah commands cooperation in piety.

7. Serve

  • Definition: To perform duties for someone or provide assistance in a helpful manner.

  • Example:
    A Muslim should serve others as the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, "The most beloved of people to Allah are those who are most beneficial to others." (Sahih Bukhari)

    Synonyms:

    • Urdu: خدمت (Khidmat)

      • Example (Urdu): "حضرت محمد صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: 'اللہ کے نزدیک سب سے محبوب لوگ وہ ہیں جو دوسروں کی سب سے زیادہ خدمت کرتے ہیں۔'"
        (Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) ne farmaya: "Allah ke nazdeek sab se mehboob log woh hain jo doosron ki sab se zyada khidmat karte hain.")
      • Meaning: A Muslim should serve others, as service to others is beloved to Allah.
    • Arabic: خدمة (Khidma)

      • Example (Arabic): "قال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم: 'أحب الناس إلى الله أنفعهم للناس.'"
        (Qala al-nabi (PBUH): 'Ahabbu al-nas ila Allah anfa'uhum lil-nas.')
      • Meaning: The most beloved of people to Allah are those who benefit others the most.
